Checklist for Moving

Moving house can be a very stressful time. There’s so much to do and so many things to remember it can be easy to forget to make all the necessary arrangements.  To help movers out we’ve created this handy checklist of all the tasks to complete when moving house so you can settle into your new home as stress-free as possible!

Packing your belongings

  • Make a decision about items you no longer want – could they be sold or given to charity?
  • Do not put all your heavy items in one box – make sure your boxes are sturdy and strong
  • Mix light and heavy goods to spread the load and make lifting easier
  • Use bubble wrap, newspaper to protect fragile goods
  • Label all boxes on the outside with contents and if fragile – this will make it much easier to unpack in your new home
  • Bundle associated wires, chargers and label them clearly

Before the Move

  • Cancel all rental agreements and direct debits
  • Notify your doctor, dentist, optician and vet
  • Notify banks, building societies and credit card companies
  • Inform telephone company and other main services
  • Ask Royal Mail to re-route your post to make sure you don’t miss any letters
  • Tell TV licence, Cable, DVLA and Passport Office
  • Clean out the freezer and allow it to de-frost

Storage Availability

If you’re looking to free up some space in your new home or perhaps your temporarily down-sizing then self-storage can be the perfect way to keep your belonging safe.

Self storage

  • Make a list of what you put in storage
  • Confirm the dates that storage is available
  • Confirm insurance of the unit
  • Provide a sturdy padlock and key
  • Sign and return your contract with payment and deposit

Using Storage Space

  • Work out which items you may need first and place these towards the front
  • Place larger and heavier items towards the back
  • Leave room to access the storage space
